Comparing and contrasting delivery platforms
In P1, I was tasked to describe up to 3 different existing media products and cover the purposes of each one: I chose to describe Dead By Daylight (video game), Instagram (social media) and Netflix (entertainment), as they are all relatively popular media products that are used quite frequently today.
Considering that each of these media products are different to each other, there are a wide range of delivery platforms that each of them can be accessed and used on.
Netflix is a subscription-based streaming service that offers a wide variety of TV shows, movies, and original content. The platform uses a streaming format, which allows users to watch content over the internet without having to download it to their device. Netflix is accessible on a range of devices, including smart TVs, game consoles, smartphones, and tablets, making it a convenient way for users to watch their favourite shows and movies on-the-go.
Dead by Daylight, on the other hand, is a multiplayer survival horror game that is played on gaming consoles and computers. The game utilizes a real-time, interactive format that allows players to engage with each other in a virtual world. Dead by Daylight requires users to download the game to their device and play it locally, which provides a more immersive experience compared to streaming. Additionally, the game’s real-time format allows for more advanced features, such as real-time collaboration with other players and the ability to use motion controls.
